Installation-Howto

For Unreal-Gold, Return to Napali 226b

REMEMBER: ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR UNREAL/SYSTEM DIRECTORY BEFORE INSTALLING THESE FILES !

FOR UNREAL GOLD ONLY (Unreal226f below)

1. Delete Unreal.ini in Unreal/System folder

2. Extract all files into Unreal/System

3. Set in Advanced Options / Drivers / GameRenderDevice / Opengl Support

4. Set Advanced Options / Rendering / OpenGL Support/ for your system

5. For OpenGL : Check your desktop color depth ! In most cases OpenGL will use the desktop color depth by default, so you should choose 32 bpp for best results !

FOR UNREAL 226F

1. Delete Unreal.ini in Unreal/System folder

2. Simply replace the OpenGL.dll in your system directory.
DON'T REPLACE THE OTHER FILES !

Here are a few tips and hints (some of the commands are not in the ini because normaly they are not needed, if you need them, add them to the ini file:

Use S3TC : set to 1 for support for compressed textures. S3TC compressed textures are possible and can displayed in Unreal. For example see "Ancientfuture" in my Artmaps gallery.A tool to extract the S3TC textures from the 2nd Unreal-Tournament cd is included.

UseTNT : Workaround for buggy drivers, use if u got 1 fps or if you have display problems.

DetailMax : set the depth of the detail texture, 3 is default, but you can
try different values for performance/eye candy

DisableSpecialDT : disable special detail texture rendering method, 0 is
default, try setting to 1 if you have problem with detail textures

Use444Textures : For real low-end grafix cards.

MaxAnisotropy : maximum level of anisotropy used

RefreshRate : Use this command only if you have problems with the refresh rate the game uses.

DoPrecache : Precaching on/off

FIX FOR MASKING BUG (by Hellscrag, www.unrealsp.org)

Fixing the black tree bug is easy - it can be done using the console commands.

Save a text file mask.txt to your Unreal\System folder containing the following commands:

set tree style STY_Masked
set bird1 style STY_Masked
set krall style STY_Masked
set manta style STY_Masked
set devilfish style STY_Masked
set warlord style STY_Masked
set mantacarcass style STY_Masked
set krallcarcass style STY_Masked
set devilfishcarcass style STY_Masked
set warlordcarcass style STY_Masked
flush

Then bind a key in Unreal (I chose M) to:
exec mask.txt
